What does NSC look for in its members?
There is no cookie cutter NSC member! Rather, NSC looks for members with diverse perspectives and backgrounds in order to represent more identities in CNS. We hope to find members who are ready to serve the college, passionate, and reflective. In all aspects of the recruitment process, applicants should focus on showcasing who they are and how they aim to contribute to the council’s goals with their unique experiences and skill set.
Keep in mind that NSC does not have any academic requirements, such as a minimum GPA or preference for those enrolled in an honors program, etc. and we encourage applications from students regardless of where they are in their academic journey. We simply aim to use the application as a tool to learn more about your background and what you are passionate about.
If you would like to speak with current members regarding your application, consider coming to our H(app)y Hour Application Workshop event!
How many new members are selected during each recruitment cycle?
There is no set class size for each recruitment cycle because NSC wants to give all applicants a fair chance. This number can fluctuate depending on the applicant pool. In recent history, our larger class sizes have been close to 25 people, and our smaller class sizes have been close to 12 people, but we have no set limits, and will recruit as many people as we can based on applications and our current needs.
Am I required to attend recruitment events to join?
Recruitment events are a wonderful way to learn more about our organization and application, especially if you are a first time applicant. However, if you cannot make it to any of our events due to scheduling conflicts with work/classes/orgs we will not count it against you. If none of our event times work for you and you are still eager to meet an officer and learn more about joining NSC, email nsc.ut.vice.president@gmail.com and we will work with you to get your questions answered!
